What does it mean?
The French have a term for the most difficult climbs in cycling — hors catégorie or “beyond categorization.” Race organizers use the acronym “HC” to distinguish these ascents from the easier category 4, 3, 2 and 1 climbs. Mont Ventoux, Alpe d’Huez, Tourmalet, Galibier, Croix-de-Fer…these HC climbs are revered (and feared) and hold a special place in cycling history.
In my career as an ad agency creative director and graphic designer, I have always prided myself on going above and beyond what is required, using a wide range of skills, to tackle the most difficult tasks. It is in this spirit that I introduce my personal brand Schweitzer and hcswag.com. My goal is to provide creative beyond category work—in both my apparel designs and in the inspired design, marketing and branding solutions I provide for cycling clubs and events.
I look forward to a hard but rewarding climb. — Jason Schweitzer
